RARE Opportunity to own a CLASSIC .240 APEX Holland and Holland Magnum Bolt Action Rifle, this from Interarms Whitworth. This is NOT even a ‘short way’ from Brand New.
Also to note: At time of listing I have the same basic rifle again only actually still Brand New / Unfired Condition in .244 Holland and Holland.
There is also plenty of ‘history’ and detail on line about the exact origins of the rifles and calibre. As such it’s an easy enough task to take a look. However in basic terms the rifles are built on High Quality Mauser 98 Style Actions from Zastava in Yugoslavia. Shipped to Manchester where they were made into the EXCELLENT Rifles they are.
In reality very little difference IF ANY in build quality to the Very Best of Best English Sporting Rifles. After all the bulk of those actually built on SALVAGED and re-furbished WWII German GEW Mauser 98 Actions. These are BRAND NEW at the start when still available.
This IS also however a ‘true commercial’ action. No ‘fast loader’ clip slot and no thumb cut out to the left side of the action wall. As such an EASY export to the USA etc. It is pre-drilled and tapped to take standard scope bases and rings of whatever diameter required. The original grub screws are absent so I assume a scope fitted at some point. Also similarly prepared and ready to accept a rear side mount or Target Dioptre sight (?). That said, no facility to accept a front element so we will go for a rear side scope mount position. Equally when the plain, unsighted barrel format was chosen the action was already prepped. These days its anyone’s guess as to actual 100%accurate information.
A Long 26 ½” (673mm) Semi Heavy Weight / Profile Barrel in its Original none screw cut form. Fully Controlled Feed Mauser Bolt and Extractor. Side positioned Safety and Bolt with Rear Cocking Indicator. Strong Straight Grained Stock measuring to a Trigger Pull at 14 1/8” (360mm). That is including the ¾” (19mm) Recoil pad. Total Overall length comes to 47 ¾” (1212mm) and tips scales bare at a straight 8 Lbs 9 ½ oz (3.897 Kg).
A Very Pretty and Stunning Cross Grain Tiger Stripe pattern to Both Sides and the bottom. Almost like a Double Stripped Zebra! Skip or ‘Fox’ Cut Chequering Panels with a Nice Palm Swell to the Pistol Grip. Offering up a Very Nice and Comfortable mount into the shoulder. Semi Roll Over Raised Cheek Rest. Finished off with Traditional White Spacer Strip to emphasise the Darker Rosewood Grip Cap and Forend Tip.
The stock could easily be a 1200 Deluxe model direct from Parker Hale. It WOULD make sense given general location of both companies. NOTHING at all wrong with that. Equally it may well just as easily have been made by / for Interarm elsewhere. Makes no real difference as its just as nice an example and fantastic condition. To finish things a Fully Adjustable Trigger and Hinged Floor Plate Magazine. As such impossible to lose.
