ANSCHUTZ MATCH 54 LEFT-HANDED TARGET RIFLE.
Classic Age-Old Match 54 TRUE LEFT-HANDED Match Target .22 Rim-Fire Rifle from Anschutz, Germany. ALWAYS regarded as amongst the Very Best options available. Used and recommended by and for the Very Best of International Level Competition Shooting Disciplines. They also come with a well deserved reputation from DECADES of medal winning history.
As per the title detail, this is also a TRUE Left-Handed Bolt version so a long way from common.
A 26″ (660mm) Heavy Weight Match Grade Target Barrel. Stock pull currently measures to 13 7/8″ (340mm) to bring in an overall length at 43 3/4″ (1110mm). Scales offering up a bare rifle weight, as pictured, of 9 Lb 12 ½ oz (4.439 Kg).
The Action also features a ‘full-length’ Standard Width Dovetail. As such far easier to mount a scope to and unlike older versions only cut to the rear portion. Obviously, it will also accommodate a traditional Dioptre Target sight too. The muzzle dovetail block still in place too, ready to accept a front element holder. Both of which I will usually have in stock to add if required.
Height Adjustable Butt Plate with the Pull Length also simple to set up perfectly. Dedicated Anschutz 1/8″ (3mm) Plastic Spacers pieces are available as extras. OR simply make a single piece to suit yourself once a perfect length is worked out. The Trigger Blade DOES have Fine adjustment too and will accommodate circa 3/4″ (19mm) of travel. As such allowing super ‘fine tuning’ for the Absolute Perfect Fit. As pictured it is currently circa mid position.
Over-sized Large Black Bolt Knob for Super Positive operation when loading / unloading etc. Cocking Indicator to the rear too. The usual / standard Flush Inlet Accessory Rail to the For-end.
The Match Grade Target Trigger is a Two Stage option. However, these can usually be adjusted out of play to a Single IF preferred.
The stock has a Dark, possibly stained, matt varnish finish. Timber could be Beech but the grain pattern suggests not. Equally, neither does it ‘shout’ Walnut so?
The varnish finish does also have some light, superficial blemishes evident. I will pass my usual comment about manufacturers insisting on finishing woodwork like this. It’s near impossible not to end up with marks if a gun does anything more than stay locked away. However, it is also the least expense. But given the cost of rifles like this when new it should NOT be a factor. Just my opinion I suppose. Anyway, any and all marks appear to be to the finish rather than the timber itself. As such, relatively easily stripped back and re-finish IF you wish. Alternatively, just use exactly as is. It’s not like any additional work will improve the rifles performance or accuracy.
**** ALSO TO NOTE:****
The Stock DOES have evidence of a repaired crack. This is very slight. Many could well miss it if not looking carefully. HOWEVER, take even remotely sensible care of the rifle and it’s now, very possibly, even stronger than its original condition. No real reason why sensible handling and use would not see this still around a couple of lifetimes later. You could opt for brand new but equal to even more chance of damaging that if you are that way inclined. Drop it, allow it to fall over, throw it around and new or repaired will likely suffer the same end result. The point is this WILL use perfectly well for decades in sensible hands. Alternatively, spend 3x the money and more and I will order you up brand new if preferred.
