HOWA 6.5 X 55 BOLT ACTION RIFLE.
Howa 1500 Standard Sporting weight Bolt Action Rifle in 6.5 x 55 (Swiss). 22″ (560mm) Screw cut ½ x 20 TPI ready to accept a Sound Moderator of choice. Plenty of those generally in stock too so please do ask and check. Happy to sort out a package deal. Trigger pull measures to a straight 14″ (355mm) and brings in an overall length at 42 7/8″ (1090mm). Scales show a bare weight as pictured of 7 lbs 4 ½ oz (3.298 Kg).
Metal work on this is Absolutely like Brand New. There is not so much as a mark on the Bolt Face or anywhere else. The ONLY blemish to the finish is a few light marks along the bolt shat itself. That from running along / over the ammunition lifter in the magazine. The Bolt Knob, Rear Bolt Shroud and the rest of the Shaft is AS NEW. Barrel and Action are Equally as Clean, as is the Magazine Hinged Floor Plate.
What’s marginally confusing is the condition of the Black Synthetic Hogue Rubber Over-Moulded Stock. This, quite frankly, simply does not match the rifle condition. It IS clean enough and nothing at all wrong with it to use as is. However, it does have a few marks and blemishes. Nothing more than light / superficial but none the less it does not match up.
I SUSPECT the previous owner had more than one Howa Rifle. At some point they ‘invested’ in an after-market Up-Grade, most likely when they originally purchased this. Swapped out the stock to use on the first / original rifle. Leaving this simply sat, tucked away in a cabinet, along side the original now USED Hogue Stock. When they decided to part with this, after it sat there doing nothing for however long, it went as is.
There is no other remotely logical explanation much, if any, away from this. As detailed, it’s NOT that the stock is BAD. Simply that it is nowhere even close in comparison the metalwork condition.
PERHAPS what I should do is just swap it into a Brand-New Stock and basically jump the price accordingly. I still can if you wish. Pick your stock upgrade, I will sort out a cost and happily supply plus fit it.
As for the calibre:
If you’re already looking its fair chance you already know its history. If not, then do yourself a small favour and check it out. Originally developed by the Swedish Military it is widely known as the 6.5 Swede / 6.5 x 55 Swedish etc. It successfully kept out any and all unfriendly attention since it was first introduced! There REALLY IS NO particularly good reason to follow the current crowd and opt for a Creedmoor or even a PRC version. Yes, each goes out circa 300 ft/sec faster than its predecessor. SO WHAT? There is NOTHING alive on the planet that can outrun a standard 6.5 calibre round.
YES, OK, either other choice may well offer up marginally improved potential for LONG range paper. So what? IF that is your preference, then by all means go that route. For anyone wanting a CRACKING Stalking and stupidly heavy hitting Fox Rifle LOOK NO FURTHER!
