Weatherby Vanguard ‘Meat Eater’ version Bolt Action Rifle in .243 Winchester. Apparently dispatching foxes at 250 yards no problem. Now, I cannot confirm, nor will I comment. However, Weatherby were THE FIRST manufacturer in the world to offer / guarantee Sub MOA accuracy straight from the box. Given that equates to under 2 ½” (64mm) at said 250 yards at worst its obviously more than possible.
Standard spec. offers up a 24” (610mm) Twist Fluted Barrel factory Screw cut at ½ x 28 TPI UNeF. All ready for a sound moderator of your choice. Generally, plenty of those readily available too so do ask. Metal work is also finished in a darkish Grey Cerakote for additional corrosion protection. That includes the magazine and trigger guard. The bolt shaft also features straight / in line Fluting too. Stock pull measures to 13 5/8” (345mm) and brings in an overall length of 44” (1145mm). Scales register a bare rifle weight as pictured at 7 Lbs 4 ½ oz (3.293 Kg).
Fully Adjustable Trigger. The hinged floor plate magazine detailed with a ‘Moose Head’ Logo as well as MEAT EATER detail. Marginally ambitious for the calibre but not impossible! Rigid Black Synthetic Stock with Anti-Slip Textured Grip areas and raised Cheek Rest. Then with Grey and Mid Brown Break up pattern colouring throughout.
It IS, actually, quite a nice rifle with a lot of ‘extra’s included in the build for not a lot of money. NO GOOD reason why they are not way more popular here in the UK either. Other than not great marketing! This is showing minimal signs of much use to date too. The Bolt Knob (with Knurled Grip Ring) and shaft is hardly marked or remotely worn. It also sports a Cocking Indicator to the back of the bolt along with a Three Position Side Safety. In reality, there is not a lot left that can be done or offered!
At £1250 plus for new this offers up a more than decent saving.
