RARE Opportunity to own a CLASSIC .244 Holland and Holland Magnum Bolt Action Rifle, this from Interarms Whitworth. Also, as far as I am aware, this is actually still Brand New. At time of listing I also have the same basic rifle again (though very lightly used). That one in the other Holland and Holland CLASSIC calibre of .240 Apex.
This ‘little pill’ was actually developed by David Lloyd of Pipewell, England. His Rifles are World Renowned and considered amongst some of the best ever designed and produced. He passed on the development of his .244 cartridge to Holland and Holland who gladly adopted it for their own portfolio.
There is also plenty of ‘history’ and detail on line about the exact origins of the rifles as well as the calibre. As such it’s an easy enough task to take a look. However in basic terms the rifles are built on High Quality Mauser 98 Style Actions from Zastava in Yugoslavia. Shipped to Manchester where they were made into the EXCELLENT Rifles they are.
This IS however a ‘true commercial’ action. No ‘fast loader’ clip slot and no thumb cut out to the left side of the action wall. As such an EASY export to the USA etc. It is pre-drilled and tapped to take standard scope bases and rings of whatever diameter required. The original grub screws still in place too. Also similarly prepared and ready to accept a rear side mount or Target Dioptre sight (?). That said, no facility to accept a front element so we will go for a rear side scope mount position.
A Long 26 ½” (673mm) Semi Heavy Weight / Profile Barrel in its Original none screw cut form. Fully Controlled Feed Mauser Bolt and Extractor. Side positioned Safety and Bolt with Rear Cocking Indicator. Strong Straight Grained Stock measuring to a Trigger Pull at 14 1/8” (360mm). That is including the ¾” (19mm) Recoil pad. Total Overall length comes to 47 ½” (1207mm) and tips scales bare at a straight 9 Lbs (4.091 Kg).
Skip or ‘Fox’ Cut Chequering Panels with a Nice Palm Swell to the Pistol Grip. Offering up a Very Nice and Comfortable mount. Semi Roll Over Raised Cheek Rest. Finished off with Traditional White Spacer Strip to emphasise the Darker Rosewood Grip Cap and Forend Tip.
The stock could easily be a 1200 Deluxe model direct from Parker Hale. It WOULD make sense given general location of both companies and NOTHING at all wrong with that. Equally it may well just as easily have been made by Interarm. Makes no real difference as its just as nice an example and condition. Fully Adjustable Trigger. Hinged Floor Plate Magazine so impossible to lose finishing things off.
