ANY even half way serious UK collector and this SHOULD be raising a pulse or two of interest. YES, unfortunately its not what I would or could class as a ‘sleeper’. Equally the price does reflect this. There is a straight line crack in the forend woodwork AND the Action finish is poor. It may well glue easily once CLEANED back properly. Equally, a replacement piece of timber for the front end should not prove massively difficult to sort out. Even ‘age’ and finish to match the stock.
Not entirely sure if the action and forend band was not originally a paint or similar finish (?). I ask / detail because the barrel is finished in traditional Gun Blue and in FINE condition in comparison. It also appears original as WHY would anyone re-finish a barrel and not do the receiver at the same time? Makes zero sense. In reality I think the barrel is still original finish. Neither is the action or band pitted / damaged. Its simply whatever original finish has worn and would now be detailed as ‘good patination’!
Still a lot of Nita Blueing finish to the action slide in place and trigger blade also in Fantastic condition. Both of which SUPPORT the barrel comment weighed against the action and band etc.
It still works EXCEPTIONALLY well. CHECK OUT the target group image supplied by the previous owner through open sights. He readily admitted the two MINOR ‘flyers’ WERE his doing and NOT down to the rifle. Also CERTAINLY no ‘spring chicken’ any more by his own comment. Its ONLY his now failing eye sight that convinced him to part exchange this. He did not want to ‘spoil’ the original rifle by having a scope fitted. Plus he still wants to shoot the same discipline but just needs better open sights to do so. He opted for a VERY NICE W. W. Greener Martini with rear pop up 6 hole dioptre eye piece fitted. Anyone with decent eye sight below his 75 years plus set and you SHOULD be able to half the group. Very possibly reduce it even more as he tells me from past experience the rifle IS certainly well capable of better.
19 7/8” (505mm) Barrel, pre-screw cut ½”x20 Tpi UNF. All ready for a sound moderator too screw on. I actually have a few OLD Parker Hale units sat here and happy to include one with the rifle if needed / wanted. Stock pull measures 13 ¼” (335mm) to the inner curve of the concave butt. (Measured parallel with the top of the stock back from the trigger blade). Maximum O/A length measures to a straight 37” (940mm) and tips the scales at 5 lbs 9 oz (2.52 Kg).
The stock itself has no ‘big’ marks or blemishes. Again, for its age, I will detail as exceptional given it HAS been used regularly for MANY (120+) years.
